China Sunergy Co., Ltd. (Nasdaq: CSUN), a specialized solar cell manufacturer based in Nanjing, China, today held a High Performance Solar Cell Technology Presenting & Customers Annual General Appreciation Meeting in CSUN’s headquarter on 28th Jan. 2010. Dr. Allen Wang, CEO of China Sunergy, Dr. Jianhua Zhao, CSUN’s CTO, attended this meeting. More than 60 representatives from over 20 domestic & foreign customers participated in this event, during the technology meeting in the afternoon, Dr. Allen Wang, announced CSUN long-term Development Plan, Dr. Zhao, set forth CSUN cell technology roadmap. Mr. Yumin Gu, Vice president of CSUN, and general manager of Sales & Marketing Division, summarized 2009 sales results and estimated sales outlook for 2010, he forecast that the sales shipment will increase more than 50% in 2010.
“China Sunergy is one of the few companies that only focus on R&D, manufacture, and Sales of high performance solar cells around the globe, we believe the concept of “Technology Creates Value”, a R&D team lead by Dr. Zhao is devoted to the R&D of high performance cells’ application for the end user, to bring more benefits to module manufacturers as well as investors and project developers. All these are China Sunergy’s permanent pursuit” said by Dr. Allen Wang (CEO) “testified by relevant statistics, every 1% enhancement in efficiency, 5% of the cost will be reduced. Besides, CSUN has set a series of systems & mechanisms, such as GTM， NPI， ECN, etc, to improve commercialized efficiency, to apply high efficiency cells on modules, to get more power from the system. We also set a department named BD, business department, that is to develop business other than the cell business. We have already successfully developed CPV, Roof tile, car roof, and OEM module businesses that represent 10% of our total revenue, which means China Sunergy is closer to downstream industry.
“CUSN’s Q3 2009 financial report confirmed that China Sunergy has developed a mono-crystalline high efficiency P-type solar cell with target conversion efficiency of over 19%. A test conducted in the third quarter by Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems in Germany has shown the conversion efficiency of 19.04%. Our new type solar cell is expected to realize pipeline production in the second half 2010. We have sample orders from CPV, Car roof, and roof tile customers, only CSUN high performance can better meet their very strict and special requirements. Mr. Yumin Gu, CSUN’s vice president, general manager of Sales & Marketing Division commented: “on 20th Jan. 2010 German Government issued the updated feed in tariff, the new subsidy will drop greatly: roof–top subsidy will decline 15% plus from April 2010 onwards, subsidy for ground mounted & solar farm will decline 15% & 25% respectively from July 2010 onwards. The price reduction will be a reality by the end of 2nd quarter or at the beginning of 3rd quarter, under such circumstances, the PV companies on the value chain will be confronted with pressure, so to reduce the cost, and to improve technology will be the priority for all the players, so it is the good chance to highlight the advantages of High performance solar cells, because high performance solar cells are able to actually save the cost for down-stream investor, developer, and the utility. Now, CSUN presents innovative types of products for its customers, these novel solar cells have higher efficiency, enabling each cell to save more energy. For example, with the same module dimension, the module consists of high performance solar cells has 10% more efficiency than encapsulated by the normal ones. In Addition, due to the improved efficiency, it will also lead to less pieces of modules required, less cables and cabinets requested, faster installation speed, logistic & labor cost reduction, etc.”
